Introduction

The order Lampridiformes contains six or seven families (Nelson 2006; Wiley & Johnson 2010, Nelson et al. 2016). Phylogenetic relationships of the group by Olney et al. (1993), based on morphology were corroborated by Wiley et al. (1998), although the Stylephoridae were not included in the 1998 analyses. Miya et al. (2007) placed the Stylephoridae outside the Lampridiformes. Nelson et al (2016) placed the Stylephoridae within the superorder Paracanthopterygii Order Stylephoriformes as a sister group to the Gadiformes.
