Family PETRARCIDAE Gruvel, 1905
Compiler and date details
31 May 2009 - Gary C. B. Poore & Mark J. Grygier
Introduction
Grygier (1987), who diagnosed the family, recognised two subfamilies. The subfamily Introcorniinae Grygier, 1987 has one genus, but this has not been found in Australia. Petrarcinae has two genera, both found in Australia. All are endoparasites of scleractinian corals. Grygier (1991) listed and illustrated several records of petrarcid infestations (galls in dried corals) from Western Australia and Queensland besides those with published identifications or descriptions of the parasites.
