Introduction
This species was previously referred to as Heterodontus zebra (Gray 1831). Naylor et al. (2014) first suggested that Australian records may represent a different species, and this was confirmed by White et al. (2023) who described the species, and consider H. zebra to be a species more common in shallower water (<100 m) and restricted to the Northwest Pacific south to the Banda Sea, Indonesia.
