Generic Combinations

Introduction

Often treated as Craterocephalus stercusmuscarum stercusmuscarum, one of two subspecies of Craterocephalus stercusmuscarum along with Craterocephalus stercusmuscarum fulvus. Both treated here as separate species. McGlashan & Hughes (2000, 2001) and Unmack & Dowling (2010) found evidence that the species as previously recognised was separable into five different genetic clades, not fully agreeing the previous classification. Two of those are treated here as separate species (C. lentiginosus and C. fulvus). In addition they recognised a maculatus clade from Central Queensland coastal rivers and Coopers Creek in the inland and an Atherton clade on the Atherton Tableland.
