Comment: Macquart originally described this species based on a number of males from "Tasmanie". Evenhuis (1999) could only find 3 syntypes (1♂, 2♀) from NSW in the MNHP. He designated the best preserved ♀ as the lectotype and the other two specimens as paralectotypes.

Diagnosis
Small (body length 4.2 mm), face moderately conical; flagellum onion-shaped, composed of one segment plus terminal style; proboscis housed entirely in oral cavity at rest. R2+ 3 arising just proximal to r-m cross vein. Face, frons and abdominal tergites with mostly dark vestiture; wings hyaline.
