Subfamily Cypridinae Baird, 1845

Diagnosis

Large (1.5–3 mm) and globular to semi-globular species; surface of valves smooth or weakly sculptured, rarely with large spines. Anterior selvages symmetrical or asymmetrical (only on right valve). Hemipenis with 8-shaped loops in inner spermiductus. Second thoracopod with penultimate segment divided or undivided.

Tribe Cypridini Baird, 1845

Introduction

The tribe was created by Martens (1990, 1992). It includes the following genera (from Martens, 2007): Cypris O. F. Muller, 1776 (circumtropical), Globocypris Klie, 1939 (eastern and southern Africa), Pseudocypris Daday, 1910 (eastern and southern Africa), Ramotha Martens, 1992 (eastern and southern Africa), Mnementh Martens, 2007 (southern Africa).

Diagnosis

Large (1.5–3 mm) and globular to semi-globular species; surface structure of valves smooth or weakly sculptured, rarely with large spines. Some species with ‘‘porenwarzen’’. Anterior selvages symmetrically (in both valves) or asymmetrically (in RV only) inwardly displaced. Hemipenis with ‘‘8’’-shaped loops in the inner spermiductus. Mx1-palp with terminal palp segment rectangular; third endite with two tooth bristles. T2 with penultimate segment divided or undivided. Caudal ramus slender, attachment without additional proximal structures (Chlamydotheca s.l. has such additional proximal structures). (from Martens, 2007).
