Introduction

Populations in the Western Pacific may belong to an undescribed species (Allen & Erdmann 2012). Kuiter (2010) regarded the species as endemic to the Red Sea.

East of the Monte Bello Islands (20°22'S, 116°04'E) to Rowley Shoals (17°06'S, 119°37'E) and Scott Reef (14°03'S, 121°49'E), WA, and Ashmore Reef, Coral Sea (10°27'S, 144°27'E) to Escape Reef (15°49'S, 145°50'E) and possibly south to Swain Reefs (21°29'S, 152°34'E) QLD, also Coringa-Herald Cays, Lihou Reefs, and Elizabeth and Middleton Reefs, Coral Sea; tropical, Indo-west Pacific.
