Introduction
The family is endemic to Australia (Last & Stevens 2009). Currently only a single species of this electric ray is known from Australia, but variation suggest more than one species may exist. The species is often included within the Torpedinidae (Hoese et al. 2006), as a subfamily. The species is found on the bottom inshore to over 200 m.
Maximum size is 63 cm.
