Edwards, E.D. 1996. Noctuidae. pp. 291-333 in Nielsen, E.S., Edwards, E.D. & Rangsi, T.V. (eds). Checklist of the Lepidoptera of Australia. Monographs on Australian Lepidoptera. Collingwood : CSIRO Publishing Vol. 4 xiv 529 pp. & CD-ROM. [302] (Note 610. Pantydia capistrata T.P. Lucas, 1893 was described from an unstated number of specimens. It seems probable, from the description, that T.P. Lucas had a mixed series of several species and that the correct application of the name will depend upon the lectotype designation. The specimen labelled 'Type' in the SAMA, probably by N.B. Tindale, while a syntype, has no status as a primary type since Lucas did not indicate a holotype nor Tindale designate a lectotype. The specimen labelled 'Type' is a specimen of Pantydia sparsa Guenée, 1852. The name Pantydia capistrata Lucas has always been used in Australia for a species otherwise unnamed. R capistrata Lucas is applied here to this unnamed species, in the traditional sense, assuming that an appropriate syntype can be located to be designated as lectotype so as not to alter the well established application of the name)
