Introduction

The Echinorhinidae are a small family comprising one genus and two species; both species are found in Australia (Last & Stevens 1994, 2009; Compagno & Niem 1998; White 2008).

Bramble sharks are distinctive in having large pointed denticles on the skin, no anal fin and two small dorsal fins posteriorly on the body. They are ovoviviparous and occur near the bottom on the continental shelf and continental slope in warm temperate and tropical regions of the world. Maximum length reached is 4 m.
